Give Love, Get Love: Volunteer at Dogs & Cats Forever

VolunteersAre you looking for a meaningful way to give back to animals in need? Volunteering at Dogs & Cats Forever, Inc. is a rewarding way to make a difference in the lives of the animals we are privileged to care for and love. Whether you enjoy walking dogs, cuddling cats, or helping with day-to-day shelter operations, there’s a place for everyone on our volunteer team!

You can volunteer as much or as little as you’d like—come once, once every few months, on holidays, or weekly. Any time you can give is greatly appreciated, and there’s always something to do and a dog or cat waiting to be loved.

How You Can Help

  • Shelter Cleaning & Care: Help us keep our dog and cat buildings clean and comfortable. Most of our cleaning happens daily from 8 AM to 12 PM, but there are always areas that could use a little extra TLC throughout the day.
  • Dog Walking: Our dogs need daily exercise and attention. We especially need dog walkers on Saturday afternoons, but volunteers are welcome any day during business hours.
  • Cat Socialization & Play: With so many animals in our care, one-on-one time is essential for their enrichment. During business hours, bring toys, enjoy cuddles, and brighten a cat’s day!
  • Reception Assistance: We need volunteers to greet visitors, answer questions, answer phones, and introduce potential adopters to animals in both our dog and cat buildings. This role is perfect for volunteers 18 and older, but responsible teens can help, too! Saturdays (12 PM to 4 PM) are when we need the most support.
  • Feline Displays at PetSmart: Help care for and showcase our cats at PetSmart locations in Port St. Lucie and Vero Beach. Volunteers must be 18+, or under 18 with a parent present.

Volunteering for Those Under 18

  • Ages 16-17: You can volunteer in both our dog and cat buildings. A parent must sign paperwork at your orientation.
  • Under 16: Volunteers can help in the cat building. A parent must attend the orientation and may need to remain with the volunteer depending on age and maturity.
