Below are our general adoption requirements. While these guidelines are in place to ensure the well-being of our pets, exceptions may occasionally be made on a case-by-case basis depending on the specific needs and circumstances of the animal.<\/p><p>As a private adoption agency, we reserve the right to approve or deny any application. Many of these requirements are based on the common reasons animals are surrendered to shelters. While we recognize that no adoption process can guarantee the future, our goal is to place every pet in a\u00a0<em>forever<\/em>\u00a0home where they will always feel safe and loved.<\/p><p>Additionally, if you ever find yourself unable to keep the pet you\u2019ve adopted from us, our adoption contract requires that you return the animal to Dogs and Cats Forever so we can ensure their continued care and safety.<\/p><h3>To Be Considered for Adoption:<\/h3><ol><li><strong>Age Requirement<\/strong>: You must be at least 25 years old.<\/li><li><strong>Identification<\/strong>: Provide a valid photo ID with your current address.<\/li><li><strong>Homeownership<\/strong>: You must own your home.<\/li><li><strong>Household Consent<\/strong>: Documented knowledge and consent from all adults in the household are required.<\/li><li><strong>Veterinary Reference<\/strong>: Provide a verifiable veterinary reference for your past or current pets. All pets in your household must be up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed\/neutered.<\/li><li><strong>Home Visit<\/strong>: Agree to a home visit to ensure suitability.<\/li><li><strong>Household Suitability<\/strong>:<ul><li>Appropriate for the animal\u2019s\u00a0<strong>age<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Appropriate for the animal\u2019s\u00a0<strong>temperament<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Appropriate for the animal\u2019s\u00a0<strong>weight and breed<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Specific Requirements<\/strong>: Some animals may have additional needs, such as:<ul><li>A fenced-in yard.<\/li><li>An adult-only home.<\/li><li>A home with no other animals.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol><p>By following these guidelines, we strive to create the best possible matches between pets and their adoptive families, ensuring a lifetime of happiness for both. Young, abandoned babies require round-the-clock feeding and care.<\/li><li><strong>Shy or scared adult animals<\/strong>: Some pets have only ever known life in a home, so the shelter environment can be stressful and overwhelming. Foster homes provide a comfortable setting to help these animals regain confidence and prepare for their forever families.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Why Fostering Matters<\/strong> Young puppies and kittens, who cannot yet be vaccinated or spayed\/neutered, cannot stay in the shelter. Foster homes are vital to saving these vulnerable animals.
